How Long Does Divorce Take?

There are various aspects of costs. The court fees will be in the region of £300 - 400 and on top of these are our legal fees. How Long Do You Have To Be Married Before Applying For A Divorce?

You have to have been married for at least one year before you can start divorce proceedings.

What Are The Grounds For Divorce?

There is now only one ground for divorce which is :

The marriage has irretrievably broken down

This can be proven in one of five ways:

• adultery
• unreasonable behaviour
• desertion for two years
• separation for two years where the other person consents
• separation for five years (even if there is no consent from the other person)

What About Financial Matters?

You do not have to have finalised all of your financial affairs before divorce proceedings can begin. However, we do strongly advise you to seek legal advice about your entitlements. Often you may be entitled to more than you realise. We will advise you of your rights and entitlements so that you can then decide what financial support to seek or to provide.

Your Children

Where children are involved divorce can become more complicated. Ensuring that they are protected from any stress from the divorce is paramount. We will do all we can to look after your needs and those of your children.
